The library is a publicly supported educational institution with a board of trustees of seven members. It has served the the Geneva community for over 100 years.
- Mission and History
The library provides information and resources in a variety of ways and formats to meet the wide-ranging and eclectic needs of the community. The library was first established under the leadership of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1905 and rechartered as a school district pubic library by the voters of the Geneva City School District in 2006.

The Friends of the library support the Geneva Public library and work to increase the community's awareness of the library and expand the public's opportunity to participate in library programs.

The library promotes and actively publicizes its services, programs and collections in an effort to increase public awareness, and to increase the opportunities for the public to the benefit from these programs, services, and collections.
- Events
The library develops and offers a variety of events and programs for people of all ages in an effort to encourage and support reading, increase literacy in the community, and to connect people and enrich lives.
- Board of Trustees
The Geneva Public Library is governed under New York State Education Law by a seven member board of trustees. Members of the board are elected by the voters of the Geneva City School District.
- Policies & Reports
A set of policies defines how the library is governed, staffed and administered, as well as how its collections, services, programs are managed. Periodic reports are issued to address and evaluate the library's effectiveness in pursuit of its mission.
- Donations and Memorials
The library seeks donations to supplement the direct local support it receives from the residents in the Geneva City School District in an effort to maintain its high quality services, programs and collections. Additionally, the library provides opportunities to individuals and others to donate in memory of friends and relatives. The library is tax-exempt under the Internal Revenue Service section 501(c ) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code and donations to the library are fully tax deductible.
