I hope to answer some questions about National Novel Writing Month that I have gotten over the past week or so. I am really excited that so many people have expressed interest and are willing to subject themselves to sleep deprivation and social isolation for 30 days! Let's do this!

Just over 2 weeks to go, and our calendar of events is shaping up! We have wonderful parties and speakers planned for Mid-Way and for TGIO.

National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing on November 1. The goal is to write a 50,000 word, (approximately 175 page) novel by 11:59:59, November 30. Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved. Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. This approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.

Did you know that every Friday, Barnes & Noble features a free Nook download? I must admit that I have known about it for some time, but only recently have been taking advantage of it. This week it's The Murder at the Vicarage by Agatha Christie, her first novel to feature Miss Marple. Last week it was Scott O'Connor's debut novel Untouchable.

Looking for an eReader to love? Looking for that special eReader who understands your reading needs? Who enjoys quiet nights reading by the fire? Or long afternoons reading on the beach? Your perfect match is out there, we promise!

The Geneva Public Library has been awarded a Reading & Discussion Grant from the New York Council for the Humanities to bring an exciting program to the area.

In the last week of Community Read Month, we can look forward to the screening of Normal People Scare Me, a film by Keri Bowers and Taylor Cross, at the Smith Opera House. Be sure to join us at the Library before the film for the Story Room Dedication in loving memory of Linda Blackwell. The dedication and reception start at 6:00 pm and the film begins at 7:00 pm. Hope to see you there!
