As Central Library of the Pioneer Library System, the Geneva Public Library receives annual grants from New York State to purchase non-fiction materials and to develop specialized services. A system-wide advisory committee assists in the planning and development of these collections and services.

Communication Strategies

One of our goals this year at the Central Library has been to ease and improve communication about Central Library services and programs with member libraries: trying to cover everything in a few minutes at the System Meeting just doesn't cut it.

State Support of Library Reduced 20% by End of 2009, Cuts Follow

2009 ended with a 20% reduction from state support in 2008 of central library collections and services, with indications that cuts in 2010 will be somewhat less as 14%.

Library Joins Ask Us 24/7 Online Reference Program

The Geneva Public Library joins a group of Upstate New York libraries in January 2010 to offer Geneva residents access to a 24 hour “virtual reference desk,” Ask Us 24/7, which launched as a cooperative service in March of 2003 by the non-profit Western New York Library Resources Council.
