Memoir Writing a focus of “The Color of Water” Community Read in March
People have the opportunity to share their own memoirs as part of the month-long community read in March of James McBride’s "The Color of Water," sponsored by the local literacy coalition, Geneva Read
Mar. 12: Mark Gearan, President of Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Appears in Musical Moments Performance
Mark D. Gearan, President of Hobart and William Smith Colleges, plays a medley of Irish tunes on the piano in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, as well as series of popular selections from Broadway to the Beatles, on March 12 at the library's Musical Moments. Mr. Gearan’s performance begins at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Geneva Public Library One of 30 Libraries in State to Receive Funds for Expanded Computer Access and Training
The library will receive funding for two years to expand the number of computers it makes available to the public, provide computer and job seeking skills training, and offer additional online resources. The grant is part of the State Library’s Broadbandexpress@yourlibrary project to help low-income, unemployed,underemployed, and other vulnerable populations in upstate New York.
Geneva Reads Launches Community Read of The Color of Water by James McBride
If Geneva Reads--a local literacy coalition--is successful in promoting its 1st Annual Geneva Community Reads, the month of March 2010 will be an extraordinary opportunity for the community to read and discuss The Color of Water by James McBride, an American memoir of family, race, religion and culture.
Friends & Volunteers Set-up Annual March Book Sale
The Friends of the Geneva Public Library have completed their drive for books and have begun setting up its 2010 Annual Book Sale in the library community room, which is scheduled to begin Thursday, March 4, and run through to Sunday March 7.
Memorial Planned Feb 11 for Children's Librarian Linda Blackwell Who Passed Away Suddenly
A memorial is planned at the library for Children's Librarian Linda Blackwell, who passed away suddenly on Monday while at home with family. She was a welcoming, creative, and constant presence in the Children's Room for nineteen years and will be greatly missed. The library will close at 5 p.m. and reopen at 7 p.m. for the reception.
Show Your Support by Visiting a Public Library the Week of February 14th
Pioneer Library System is asking community members to show their support for public libraries by visiting their OWWL (Ontario, Wayne, Wyoming or Livingston County) library the week of February 14. Show your support in Geneva by visiting the Geneva Public Library on Thursday, February 18.

Library Accepting Book Donations for March Booksale
The library is accepting book donations through February 27 for the annual Friends of the Library winter book sale. The book sale begins March 4 and continues through March 7.

State Support of Library Reduced 20% by End of 2009, Cuts Follow
2009 ended with a 20% reduction from state support in 2008 of central library collections and services, with indications that cuts in 2010 will be somewhat less as 14%.

Book Discussion Series Begins in February 2010
Beginning in February of 2010, the Library will again host the popular Reading Between the Lines book discussion series. "Immigration and the Idea of America" will be facilitated by Dr. Neeta Bhasin, Assistant Professor in the Writing and Rhetoric program at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
