April 14-18: National Library Week and School is Out!
National Library Week is April 14 -18 and the Geneva Public Library celebrates with programs for children and teens. Local schools are closed during National Library Week for spring break.
On Monday, beginning at 3:30 PM, children ages 9-12 have an opportunity to create podcasts to promote their favorite book or book character. Beginning at the same time on Thursday, an hour of Karaoke is planned for children in grades 3-5. And at 3:30 PM on Friday, an hour of crafts is planned for children ages 3-8. A movie is planned each day at 1PM for children ages 9-12. Movies are G and PG.
For teens, the week begins on Monday with a "Survive Jeopardy & Feel Like A Millionaire Game Show" from 5-7 PM. Tuesday starts early with board games in the morning, a Dance Dance Revolution Tournament at 3:30 PM, and a Rock Band tournament at 5 PM. On Wednesday, teens have the opportunity to design and make horoscope clothing patches from 3:30 to 4:30 PM. From 5-6 PM, teens will explore the question, "Are You Psychic?" Thursday, teens will learn how to "trick" out their MySpace pages from 4:30 to 5:30 PM. And teens end the week on Friday with a book discussion on “The Rules of Survival” by Nancy Werlin beginning at 4 PM.
The library is also collaborating with the Geneva City Schools in handing out a free book all week to any child in grades K-2 from the North Street or West Street schools. The book is Poppleton by Cynthia Rylant and Mark Teague. There also will be guest readings of Seed Folks by Paul Fleischman during the week.
