April 21-25: Free Copy of Poppleton
Students in grades K-2 returning to North and West Street Schools from spring break will be receiving a free copy of the children's book Poppleton.
The book was available to the children a week early at Geneva Public Library, but the books are back to the schools and will be distributed this week to the children.
The book is the first in a series of popular children's books by Cynthia Rylant and Mark Teague and is being given by the North and West Street schools to their K-2 students when they return from spring break. The copies of Poppleton are available to K-2 students 'in te Geneva city schools with the help of a Wyckoff grant.
With its spring gift, the North Street and West Street schools hope to plant a seed in homes to help home libraries grow. The schools are working with Geneva Public Library and others to launch a community initiative, Geneva Reads, that encourages reading and raises the importance of reading in the Geneva community.
The Geneva Public Library has some of the largest collections for children in the area and offers programs to children and families as well. The library encourages all children to register for a free library card.
